Abstract
In a randomised clinical pilot trial with four arms an oral enzyme
preparation (Phlogenzym®, Mucos Pharma, Germany) was
tested in patients with chronic hepatitis C. The test drug was
compared to a-interferon (a-IFN), Ribavirin® (RVN), and a liver
support therapy (vitamines, trace elements; LST). In each group 10
patients were included with pure hepatitis C in chronic progredient
stage, with a prothrombin concentration (50%, after written informed
consent). They were treated for 12 consecutive weeks. The following
variables were evaluated for efficacy: (1) liver enzymes AST, ALT,
and g-GT; (2) sumscore of the symptoms inappetence, nausea,
vomiting, fatigue, pruritus, spider naevi, icterus, temperature, and
weight loss; (3) global judgement of efficacy by the physician.
